Jose Aparicio, Head Inspector for High Rise Buildings, for the City of Chicago Building Department, spoke to over fifty property supervisors and condominium board members about the Life Safety & High Rise Ordinance.
In his presentation, Mr. Aparicio noted that completion deadlines for compliance are being upheld by City Counsel. Those deadlines are:
Wireless communication systems do not meet City of Chicago compliance standards at this time and will therefore not be approved.
Mr. Aparicio conveyed to the group that a relative few number of buildings, have completed Life Safety Improvements to date. There are approximately 1,700 existing high-rise buildings; of that total, 1,100 buildings are pre-fire ordinance (pre-1975) residential buildings.
