11 Tips for Fire Safety...
• SMOKE ALARMS are the LAW…check batteries monthly and change them when you change your clocks; place one on every floor, near stairwells and near bedrooms
• A CLOSED BEDROOM DOOR…will keep out smoke and fire for up to 20 minutes
• NEVER…hide, waste time grabbing valuables, try to save any pets or use elevators
• FEEL THE DOOR…with the back of your hand; if HOT, keep it closed, fine another way out; if not hot, open door slowly, peek and then exit quickly if the path is clear of fire and smoke
• KNOW TWO WAYS OUT…climb out a window only if it on first floor; if not, then blow a whistle, scream, make a loud sound or wave something for attract attention
• ESCAPE PLAN…designate a meeting place to go in case of fire
• ROLL OUT OF BED…when you hear the alarm and crawl under smoke to your meeting place
• DO NOT GO BACK IN…go to your meeting place and tell a fireman if you know someone is still inside
• CALL 911..once everyone is out of the building
• PRACTICE YOUR ESCAPE PLAN…once a month
• STAY CALM…Do not panic!
